Here is a little information on our favorite herbs that we lovingly grow, harvest, and infuse for use in the products we offer. Hopefully getting to know the herbs will not only help to decide what products may work best, but also help appriecaite these small wonders that are all around us.

Calendula (Calendula officinalis)
Often referred to as “herb of the sun,” this bright orange or yellow flower’s use for skin health dates back to ancient Rome, Greece, and Egypt. A powerful wound tissue vulneraary, calendula has long been used to soothe cuts, burns, bites, sprains, rashes, sunburns, abrasions, and eczema. Its’ analgesic propprties make it helpful in soothing pain assosiated with wound and skin irritations while it’s supportive role in tissue generation is famed for reducing old scars.
Dandelion (Taraxacum officinale)
This humble “weed” is actually a powerful medicinal plant that has an array of uses from its flowers, leaves, and roots. For topical uses we will focus on the happy yellow flower that decorates lawns and raodsides. Rich in powerful antioxidants (vitamins A, C, and E), dandelion flowers helps protect the skin from free radical damage, reduces the apparance of fine lines and wrinkles, encourages skin cell and collogen production, as well as brightens skin tone. Dandelion flowers contain anti-inflammatory properties that help reduce redness and swelling associated with acne, rosacea, eczema, and psoriasis. This unassuming flower is also antifungal and antibacterial, which helps detoxify the skin, clear pores, reduce acne, and protect skin from future breakouts.
Chamomile (Metricaria chamomilla)
Chamomile’s use in herbalism predates written history as it was found in scrapings from 50,000-year-old Neanderthal teeth discovered in northern Spain. Though it is often thought of as a sleep or digestion aid, chamomile is wonderful skin ally for various skin conditions. Chamomile’s powerful anti-inflammatory compounds help calm itchy, irritated, and sensitive skin, reducing redness from conditions such as sunburns, eczema, and acne. Antimicrobial properties found in chamomile protect against infection and speed up the healing of minor skin irritations or wounds. Chamomile is also rich in antioxidants that fight free radicals, slowing down the aging process reducing the appearance of fine lines and hyperpigmentation, evening out skin tone for a healthier complexion.
Rose Petals (Rosa spp.)
These beautiful, velvety soft petals, are well known for their gentle astringent qualities that tone and nourish the skin. This ability leads to cleaner pores, reduction of excess oils, and tightening of the skin without stripping or irritation. Rose petals are anti-inflammatory, leading them to cool and reduce redness from sunburns, rashes, acne, and other skin irritations. Rich in antioxidants and vitamins, rose petals help protect against environmental stressors, promote collagen production, and reduce the appearance of fine lines. This lovely herb is even useful in first aid kits as it helps stanch bleeding, promote wound healing, and prevent infection. What truly makes this rose such a superstar is its ability to do all this while remaining gentle enough for all skin types including sensitive, dry, oily, and irritated skin.
